About Us

Weyfarers with friends from Austria and Germany on a tour of the Thames - lunch stop in Abingdon

The Weyfarers Story

Weyfarers was founded in September 2000 as an offshoot of Weybridge Rowing Club, with the aim of promoting "Rowing for All". The objectives of Weyfarers are

  • to teach and promote rowing and sculling for fitness and recreation
  • to provide opportunities to participate in recreational rowing by provision of courses and facilities
  • to organise tours and events
  • to foster relations with other clubs both in the UK and abroad
  • to develop appreciation and understanding of the river environment.

What do we do?

  • Regular outings are on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Members are encouraged to patronise the bar of Weybridge Rowing Club afterwards! During the summer, members can also row in the evenings by arrangement. You don't have be part of a fixed crew, just turn up and join in!
  • Day trips and mini-tours, starting and/or finishing at Weybridge, with a picnic or pub lunch
  • Longer tours of 2-4 days on various stretches of water in the UK, staying overnight in hotels or guest houses
  • International tours with our rowing friends in other countries
  • Beginners rowing courses, in conjunction with Weybridge Rowing Club
  • And, of course, being more social than your average rower, we organise social events. Members can also join in events organised by Weybridge Rowing Club.
